Every year, millions of people around the world set off on exciting travelling adventures, but these vacations are no simple accomplishment. Travelling holidays are complex, expensive and potentially risky. To accomplish it, most people plan exhaustively. They map out schedules, account for contingencies and build detailed budgets. But no matter how much one plans, mistakes still happen and problems still arise.

The root of many of those issues is in the budget. People tend to budget at their means. The problem is that you can’t account for everything. Surprises and accidents will happen, and when they do, they will drain and undermine the budget. So in the following series of tips, we’ll explore ways to travel and budget frugally while accounting for the unexpected by travelling below our means.

Aeroplan Cards
Aeroplan cards are credit cards with built-in airline bonus programs. Often, the airline associates this account with your frequent flyer miles account, but you don’t need to be a frequent flyer in order to take advantage of an aeroplan program. These cards provide miles and cash back on travel-related purchases, and some of the best cards provide these bonuses on any kind of purchase.

A common financial technique is to use a credit card with a bonus program for all expenses. The key to this technique is to pay the entire bill each month in order to avoid credit charges. By doing so, the bonus is truly free. The savings accrued this way can be quite substantial, and travellers can even budget at standard prices, and then use this “extra” money as a safety net for all unexpected expenses.

Be Loyal
An aeroplan program isn’t the only way that loyalty pays. Many other service businesses, such as hotels and car rental agencies, have loyalty programs too. Some of these businesses require you to join programs while many of them are much more subtle than that. Long term, loyalty can pay big dividends, but travelers can also reap great financial benefits in the short term.

For instance, pick one hotel brand, and choose them for every stop along your trip. They may not give you a break upfront, but service businesses are computerized. They know when you come and how often. As you progress through the trip, the hotel will see how much business you’re giving it, and it’ll often reward you with various benefits and on-the-spot price breaks.

Take an All-Inclusive Approach
All-inclusive travel packages bundle hotel stays, car rentals, meals, drink and even activities. By choosing a bundle, you lose a little bit of flexibility, but in return, you get great savings that can really help stretch a budget. There are so many bundle options, that you can choose bundles with the same hotel and rental agencies so that you can build loyalty with those companies. Many all-inclusive vacation packages are at a fixed location, but it’s not too difficult to chain these opportunities together in order to create a travelling adventure.

Be Adventurous
Many people have their heart set on a particular destination, but that location may not be where the greatest savings lie. Be willing to go where the money is. For instance, make a list of possible destinations, and then choose the ones where the dollar is converting the highest. This adds both frugalness and excitement to your adventure. The worst mistake vacationers make is that they choose a location where they’re losing money on the dollar conversion. It may not seem like a big deal, but it adds up fast and can increase the overall cost of a vacation substantially.

Several websites offer cheap tickets to visit the Universal Studios Hollywood. If you shop around, you will get very good deals but beware of sites that are just scams and frauds as you may be taken for a ride. Look for hot deals online and you will be able to save yourself considerable money.

Universal Studios Hollywood is a great place to visit. You get to see a few movie sets such as Jurassic Park and Jaws. You will enjoy yourself here is you are love watching movies. Kids also have a great time exploring the various sets or meeting their favorite characters such as Shrek.

You can save yourself a lot of money when you look for discounts as everyone is eligible for them. We give below a few suggestions on how to get good discounts on tickets when you visit Universal Studios.

Always ensure that you buy passes that are not Front-of-the line. You may not want to stand in long queues when you have just a day to spend at the studios. Most people therefore prefer to buy tickets that will allow them to be the first in the line. However, you waste a lot of money when you invest in these passes.

Plan well in advance when you wish to visit Universal Studios or any place for that matter. Last minute tickets sold at the gate are always more expensive. Look for options available and get the best deals before online so that you do not waste time when you are at the studios. You can print your E-ticket which allows you to enter freely.

For those who wish to enjoy the various attractions offered in the vicinity, get yourself a City Pass. You will have to pay at least 50% more for this type of pass, but it is worth it as you are entitled to visit various attractions that are available so you end up finally saving some money instead of buying separate tickets. Look for the City passes online.

The Los Angeles Card is another great way to get discounts when you visit Universal Studios. However, if you are not interested in taking in the other attractions, you need not invest in this card.

If you are able to shop around for rates and look for hot deals, you will be able to make a great saving, but you should be continually on the lookout and make sure you will grab a good deal when you get good rates.

You do not have to splurge when you get here as you can avail of cheap Universal Studios tickets. If you book your Orlando flexticket online in advance, you will have no hassles.

One of my favorite places in the world is New Zealand. It’s a country filled with friendly locals and amazing natural beauty. After I saw Lord of the Rings, I dreamed of going here because the scenery just looked stunning. The more I researched my trip, the more I realized that this country was built for outdoor activities. It seemed like every suggested thing to do or see involved nature somehow. Now, I can’t say that I am a big outdoors person. I like the creature comforts of home and I hate to camp. (I love flush toilets).

But when I heard of things like kayaking in parks, and bungee jumping in canyons, and tubing down a cave, I though well, I guess if I am going to try to do one of these things, doing it in a country like New Zealand will be the best place. Yet the more I looked into everything, the more I realized that these activities were going to cost me a lot of money. New Zealand may be beautiful but it is also expensive because there’s just too much you want to do. Luckily, I found good New Zealand holiday packages that combined a lot of activities and costs to help me visit the country and save money.

The packages were definitely cheaper than if I had priced everything out on my own and I would suggest you look into them if you are planning a trip.

And New Zealand?

It was beautiful. I had so much fun. Everything you read about the country is true. I had really high expectations for the country. People always told me how amazing it was going to be and that it will be more beautiful than anything I had ever seen. So the expectations were very high.

It lived up to it though. I had a lot of fun hiking across the Tongariro Crossing. It’s a one day hike that took about 8 hours to do and I got to see Mount Doom on the way. My legs killed the next day and it was hard to walk for a few days. (I’m out of shape!) I really enjoyed the Waitomo Glow Worm caves, seeing dolphins, hiking glaciers, and doing a wine tour on the South Island.

New Zealand was simply amazing.

A stag do offers the perfect chance for you and your mates to get away and here are five of the best destinations for this kind of holiday.

Dublin
You’ll certainly be able to enjoy the craic on short breaks in Dublin. The Leopardstown Racecourse, which is about six miles south of the city centre, puts on top-quality horse-racing events throughout the year, so you and your friends can have a flutter in the hopes of winning big!

Alternatively, you may want to spend a day at one of the many championship-level golf courses in the Dublin County region, such as St Margaret’s, which has hosted prestigious events such as the Irish Senior’s Open and the Ladies Irish Open.

Make sure you stop by the Guinness Storehouse on your stag do. Here you can go on a guided tour of the factory where the famous stout is made and you’ll be able to see the world’s largest pint glass, as well as get the chance to sample the drink for yourself.

Once you’ve been taken around the brewery, head up to the Gravity Bar where you can relax with a few drinks and enjoy fantastic views of the Irish capital before heading to the city’s top nightclubs such as RiRa and Club M.

Amsterdam
A trip to Amsterdam can certainly make for a great stag do and if you’re interested in having a few beers head to the Dutch capital’s Heineken Experience, where you can learn more about the 150-year history of the premium lager. You can also take part in a cocktail-making class or go on a beer bike tour, where a group of you pedal through the city on a specially-crafted bicycle that comes with its own keg!

But there’s much more to do in the city than just drink. If you and the lads love football, a guided tour of the Amsterdam Arena – the home of top Dutch side Ajax – is sure to go down well and you may even want to take in a game and witness the passion of the Eredivisie league first hand.

When the sun sets, head to one of the city’s top restaurants – such as Brasserie Harkem or Restaurant Los Argentinos – before playing poker or blackjack at the Holland Casino.

Prague
Visiting Prague for a stag do is bound to offer a great night out. Make sure you stop by the Karlovy Lazne nightclub in the old town district. Set across five levels you’ll find each floor specialises in a different type of music so you and your boys can easily dance into the early hours.

For a slightly different night out, visit the Reduta Jazz Club to take in some live music or the Hawaiian-themed Aloha bar. But you should make sure you also visit the city’s sights during the day, such as the amazing Prague Castle.

Other activities your group can take part in while in the Czech capital include clay pigeon shooting and go-karting so you can be sure that there’s a lot to do.

Bratislava
There’s no shortage of great places to go drinking during stag holidays in Bratislava, as a range of bars and clubs – including Duplex, Infinity and Kartell – can be found within a short distance of the Presidential Palace.

Of course, you ought to have a full stomach before heading to the Slovakian capital’s various nightspots so stop by one of the several restaurants in the old town district such as Butterfly and Modra Gula, the latter of which has a rooftop terrace offering spectacular views of the city.

And there’s certainly a range of things to do during the day, including paintballing and 4×4 off-road driving, both of which can be booked through activities company Predators.

Glasgow
Closer to home, Glasgow is also a great stag weekend destination. If you’re into sport, you can watch either of the city’s football teams – Celtic and Rangers – in action.

If you want something more hands-on, race around the track at Scotkart – the largest indoor go-karting centre in Scotland – or go paintballing.

Once you’ve finished, head to the Red Onion Restaurant for something to eat – Calvin Harris and George Clooney are among the stars to have dined here – before heading to the city’s top clubs and bars.

Bamboo, on West Regent Street, is certainly one of the best nightspots and as it’s open to 03:00 GMT six nights a week there’s plenty of chance to have the stag holiday of a lifetime.

Most people are quite aware of the fact that they should have some type of travel insurance before they plan their next holidays. Anything can go wrong anytime, and your holiday insurance will help cope with the situation. This is the reason why you should take your time and pick the best insurance plan before starting your trip.

Here, it is crucial to mention that most people lay their full emphasis on finding cheap holiday insurance. It is natural to pick a plan that saves you some bucks. But at the same time, you need to understand that a cheap holiday insurance plan may never give you the right cover in different situations. What it suggests is that though it’s fine to go for a cheap insurance plan, it should be selected keeping different features in mind. There is no point in saving money if your holiday insurance makes you pay for most of your losses.

In case, you are provided with a few good cheap holiday insurance plans, you should make a comparison before making a final buying decision. At the same time, you should bear following things in mind.

One of the most important considerations is about how a policy covers your expenses. Some policies would cover expenses up front, while others reimburse you later. If you get a cheap insurance plan, don’t forget to check this particular point. If it doesn’t delay the reimbursement, go for it.

Don’t finalize your decision just considering the cost of taking out a policy. Make a decision by considering cost in conjunction with the deductible and coverage limits. It doesn’t make any sense to opt for a cheap holiday insurance plan that comes with very high deductible.

Another important factor that should be considered along with considering the cost of taking a new policy is the replacement costs of your medications. Not all policies are going to cover you for this; therefore, you will be better off reading the fine print.

Sometimes, insurance providers try to deceive you by luring you into buying a cheap holiday insurance plan when you could easily do without it. This is usually in case you travel to a country where you are usually covered under the country’s health care system.

You also need to get in touch with your current insurance carrier to see if you could add a rider to cover specific items. This is usually a good idea if you travel with expensive items like jewelry or laptops. Adding a rider to your existing insurance plan would also be a cheaper way to get covered while traveling.

The fact of the matter is that you will always be better off shopping around when you want new insurance policies. You will always get cheap deals, but you need to be in a position to separate the wheat from the chaff. So, make sure you don’t cut a deal considering the low cost, as it’s also important to check a plan for points mentioned above.

If like me you read travel guides during a flight to your holiday destination, this restaurant is unlikely to feature as only the locals are aware that it exists and you will need the password to enter. Let me explain…..

Los Canallas was a clandestine meeting place and refuge for victims of political persecution during the Chilean dictatorship. The only way to get in was by knocking the door and saying the password “Chile libre, Canalla” which literally means “Free Chile, Scum”. This tradition lives on today. It isn’t a fancy restaurant, but it has its own charm as you will see for yourself when you visit. It usually opens around 8 p.m. and it will look closed, but knock the door and say the password and you will get in.

Most new visitors are fascinated by the decor of this restaurant. Apart from the nationalist symbols which include the Chilean flag, ancient paintings and traditional Chilean dress, the walls of this restaurant are covered in messages and business cards left by previous customers. You will get the chance to leave your own mark and if you look closely enough you will see mine.

When it comes to the menu you may also be a little confused. If you speak Spanish perhaps you can ask for some help. If not, the owner Victor Painemal will surely help you to order something traditional. While you wait for your order to arrive you will be served homemade bread and pebre (a traditional Chilean sauce….yum!). My favourite dish on the menu is the Transantiago, which consists of boiled potatoes, Chilean salad (tomatoes and onion) and a leg of pork. This is enough for 4 people. Some of the most popular Chilean drinks are terremoto, chicha y pipeño. Most of the dishes are for 4 people to share so it is a good idea to go in a group. This restaurant is a tourist attraction itself and an absolute must-visit during your holidays in Chile.

There are many options and the things you’ll need on your trips vary a lot, but generally, for any form of travel there are some basic items that you will need and some basic tips you need to know. Here’s a short summary of the most important things.

Travel bags
You will need some form of bag to carry your gear in. There are many different types of bags and your journey will decide which you need. For instance, if you’re just going out for the day then a backpack or a briefcase should be enough to carry some basic things including any work you need. If you’re going for a few days, then you can get a bigger backpack or if that’s not your style a pull along suitcase.

You’ll need more bags depending on how long you’re traveling and how many things you need to carry with you.

Documents
These days, it’s very important to have some kind of photographic ID, especially if you’re flying. All flights now require this to board. If you’re just going to another state, then your driving license is enough. However, if you want to go abroad then you’ll need an updated passport.

Money
You’ll need money to travel and there are many ways of carrying your money. One of the most convenient of course is your credit card, but they are not accepted in every place so you may also need to take some traveler’s checks with you. Your last resort should be some cash that you can exchange when you get to a different country. But don’t carry too much cash, it’s always a big liability.

Photography
Apart from these good travel tips about some basic items that you’ll need for any journey, it’s also great to have a camera with you wherever you go. The opportunity to take some truly memorable pictures is a huge one and you should get a camera now if you don’t have one. You can get a smaller digital camera or you can get a good professional one too. Some people don’t like digital cameras, so they use the old automatic ones instead with real film.

Taking travel photos is not that hard and very soon after starting you will get a good eye for details. The important thing is to keep this record of all the great places you visit so you can look at them years from now.

Whatever journey you’re setting out on, you’ll want to take these few basic items with you to make sure your trip is comfortable and safe.

There is a variety of destinations to choose from when deciding to spend Christmas overseas. Whether it is winter sun, snow or a vibrant city that is desired there is huge potential for that perfect trip.

One of the most popular destinations for families at Christmas is a trip to Finnish Lapland and the Santa Claus village near Rovaniemi. Lapland is a stunning area of the world boasting unspoilt areas of snow-clad pine trees, grazing reindeer and idyllic log cabins creating the perfect festive Christmas. This amazing scenery coupled with the chance to visit Santa Claus and the opportunity to travel on reindeer pulled sleds has ensured this is one of the most popular destinations for couples and those with young children.

For others wishing to escape the winter temperatures and experience some sizzling summer sun there is no better destination for a Christmas holiday than Sydney, Australia. The fantastic southern hemisphere city enjoys stunning temperatures in the month of December, coupled with some famous sites, making this one of the best places to spend a Christmas. Bondi Beach offers a fantastic setting for a Christmas day barbeque, a dip in the pacific and some amazing views from the cliffs on the headland. The world famous harbour, home to the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge provide an ideal backdrop to carols in the park and light displays at City Hall.

Sydney may offer the perfect Christmas vacation for city sun; however, many holiday makers wish to experience a more traditional Christmas offering in a world famous city. For many, New York is thus the ideal destination. The city is full of Christmas spirit with a huge tree displayed at the Rockefeller Center and ice skating a favourite winter family pastime in the stunning setting of Central Park. The most famous of department stores such as Saks and Macy’s create festive window displays which often lure many in for some last minute Christmas gifts. The city is also home to dramatic carol concerts to ensure the whole family fully enters into the Christmas spirit.

When travelling to any of these favoured destinations it is important to make sure then when exchanging currency the best value is arranged prior to departure. Individuals should therefore ensure they research the most appropriate foreign money exchange for their needs. There is so much to enchant the Christmas spirit in all of these destinations that individuals would not want to decrease the enjoyment by not getting the best value for money when obtaining their foreign currency.

People living in Europe – including the UK – sometimes forget how lucky they are in terms of travel. It is the second smallest continent, of which there are seven, yet within its borders are diverse cultures and landscapes, sprawling modern metropolises and ancient monuments. There are few places quite like it anywhere else on the planet.

All these myriad countries are so easily reached. Travel between regions is straightforward thanks to excellent road and rail networks and a broad array of choice in the airline sector. There are more low-cost carriers in Europe than anyone else on earth, meaning it is often cheaper to fly from London to Barcelona than it is to get from London to Edinburgh on the train.

The diversity in the landscape is quite astonishing. The north is cold, where winter temperatures can plummet to -50 and during the summer the sun never sets. The south is continually warm, sunny and dry with places such as the Canaries enjoying an almost sub-tropical climate. Yet there are snowy mountains, perfect for skiing right in the centre of the landmass and dry, arid planes in places as far apart as Spain and Greece.

But most people, especially Americans and Australians, come to Europe for its culture. It is so old. The Colosseum and Pompeii in Italy are 2000 years old and Greece’s Parthenon dates all the way back to 447BC.

Medieval city centres still remain in every country, two of the best are Tallinn’s Old Town in Estonia, and Prague’s castle district in the Czech Republic. Stately and attractive townhouses, royal palaces and grand formal buildings abound in London, Paris and Madrid and picture-perfect villages are dotted across the countrysides of Ireland, Austria and Switzerland.

Choosing just one city or region is impossible, it’s hard enough deciding on which country to visit, but thankfully with travel being so easy and convenient as well as affordable, it is becoming ever more possible to tour Europe on a shoestring budget. The highest costs will actually be hotels as European city accommodation can be scarily expensive, but seeing as citywide transport is also fantastic and far less daunting than it appears from the outside, many savvy travellers are learning that it’s OK to stay on the outskirts and commute in. This is also a great way of seeing new, up-and-coming neighbourhoods and learning even more about this outstanding continent.

Monarch is one of the best value airlines providing holidays throughout Europe and beyond. They have a very easy to use website too, making the booking process swift and uncomplicated.
