Barcelona is one of my favorite destinations in Europe. It ticks all the boxes…..great weather, beautiful beaches, amazing sightseeing opportunities, international restaurants and the best nightlife I have experienced (although I have never been to Ibiza).
Most travelers are put off by the cost of flights to destinations in Europe. I think that everyone has to go at some point. You will realize what I am talking about when you see the spectacular Sagrada Familia or Park Guell.
One of the things I liked the most about my holidays in Barcelona was the variety of restaurants. I was keen to sample local dishes because I can try all sorts of international restaurants at home. I was recommended Els Quatre Gats which is located at Carrer Montsió, 3 bis. Apparently it is one of the best restaurants in the city and it specialises in Catalan cuisine. The food is not the only unique thing at this restaurant; the front of the menu was designed by none other than Pablo Picasso. My favorite Catalan starters at this restaurant are Spanish Ham and Manchego cheese. My mouth is watering as I write.
Another excellent restaurant in Barcelona is Los Abetos. Okay, it isn’t in the center of Barcelona. It is in a town about 20 minutes by train from the city, called Cerdanyola del Valles. This restaurant was also recommended by a friend. It is much more down to earth than El Quatre Gats and here you can sample Catalan dishes at more reasonable prices. It is found on Passatge Orient 4 in Cerdanyola town. I would really encourage you to go. Barcelona can be very touristy and it is nice to head out of the city and get a real taste for Catalan culture.
If you fancy trying Spanish tapas, I would recommend Taller de Tapas. It is perhaps a bit expensive, but the food is excellent. Here you can try the typical tapas dishes: patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo, aceitunas.
I hope you are tempted by all these delicious meals to travel to Barcelona. I am thinking of going again! Barcelona has a lot of food and these places will be some of the best!
